  • Horizontal line flicker

    Hi there,

I’m editing a short film shot on Sony XDCAM HD422 1080p25 (50mbs CBR).
I’m editing it all online off my Firewire 800 drive, and I keep seeing these flickering horizontal lines on playback. It’s different from interlaceed combing as it’s more spread out.

It’s less obvious when I render it out but it’s still there.

Can anyone please tell me what this is and if it’s a problem?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Tabitha

Is the flickering on your external monitor or just the FCP edit screen?

It’s just on my Computer screen. Sadly I dont have access to an external monitor yet.

If you set your Canvas to 100% it gives a more accurate display to see if the flicker is a problem or just a display artifact

Thanks, but I’ve set the canvas to 100% and the flickering/tearing is still there.

The footage is progressive and my sequence settings seem to be set up correctly with field dominance set to “none”. I don’t know what else to do and I’m a bit worried now.

    Any suggestions?

Why do you have to render? Do your sequence settings match the camera codec?

The flicker may come from the very picture is there are very thin horizontal detail.
Try the “De-flicker” with the default setting.

Yes my sequence settings match the camera codec exactly.
I get the same horizontal lines/tearing in the original files played back in Quicktime too.
The files are XDCAM HD422 1080p25.

Hi, I tried the flicker filter as you suggested, but it did nothing.
