horiz. lense flares tracked
any ideas on ways to create horizontal lense flares. you see them around. theyre not your typical refractive lense flare, more of a horizontal streak. will eventually track to light sources.

I have no idea what you are talking about. The only thing that comes to mind are anamorphic streaks (which are part of lens flare phenomenons) and those can be easily created using simple line shaped solids with soft edges and glow applied.

anamorphic flares are exactly what im talking about. probably use screen mode. will that technique have an “organic” look to it? -
what i mean by organically is having the interact with the foreground and come from lights in the source. check out the moby- southside video on joseph kahn.com

Yeah, that are definitely anamorphic streaks and secondary anamorphic streaks. In theory all light will additively mix, so the Add mode would be appropriate, but Screen looks better in many cases (it will cause less “whitening” and maintain more color). The streaks don’t really interact with the foreground. Lens flares are an in-camera phenomenon and their intensity is only dependent on how much light hits the lens system and at which angle. So whenever they seem to change it’s simply because someone blocks a certain amount of light or the camara moves. This is a bit tricky to recreate manually, but doable, once you get a feel for it. On the other hand you could of course invest a few dollars and buy Knoll Light Factory, which is still the most sophisticated and versatile lens flare plugins. It provides a way to control obscuration by determing how pixels cover its (imaginary) light source.

See the post a few below about “Light distortion” I gave my recipe for it which also works well for horizontal if you add a tint to the duplicate. Plus like Trapcode starglow it works off of the brightest points so you may not need to track anything. If nothing else, use sloppy garbae mattes to isolate areas where you want streaks to interact.

Well, I say that and loaded the FCP project and the media is offline. Seems in the last year since I shot it I dumped the files. Sorry.
When I get a DigiDeck in here I’ll resample it and post it to this thread. It was similar to Claudios except I did a lot of other tests with Kinos and different lighting techniques. Sorry to peaque interest only to not have the files 🙁
