I want to hook up the 800 firewire from an G5 to the panasonic DV-2500 deck so I can retrieve tape information to work with, in FCP. How do you do that? Do you need an adapter firewire?

Thank you very much in advance,

Why FW800? The deck only has a FW400 connection…just connect it to a FW400 port on your computer. you have a couple of those.

DV output on the Panasonic DV-2500 is not compatible with either the 400 or 800 port on the G5 so unless I am doing something supremely stupid… It appears to me that the ports on the G5 are 6 points whereas the DV deck port (DV output) is 4 points.

That is FW400. Just get a 4-pin to 6-pin FW400 cable. This deck has the same configuration on my DSR-11.
