  • Holiday Naming Quiz … New Terms for Tape Based Words

Posted by George Griswold on December 23, 2009 at 1:24 am

OK, The holiday hiatus us upon us and I have a Holiday Naming Quiz. Now that tape, motors and cassettes are largely being replaced by SS media the old terms just don’t seem to apply. These terms work, and everyone knows immediately what they mean, but maybe we could have some fun with the new ones. Fast Forward refers to time scale, so is not obsolete really.

REWIND AND FAST FORWARD are first on my list.

Rewind Alias: Time Back, Fast Back

    Fast Forward Alias: Time Ahead

    Just some ideas:
    Fast forward: “Skid forward”
    Fast rewind: “Skid back”
Fast fwd to next take: “Switch forward”
Fast rew to previous take: “Switch back”
    Speed/Rolling: “Live” (Maybe “Recording”)
    Erase: “Zap”
    Merry Christmas to all,

    Next Clip: Jump
    Previous Clip: Jump Back
    FF: Chrono (chronological)
    REW: Chrono Back
REC: (confirming “roll” on set) “In Write”

what about “rolling” and “roll cameras?” or “speed?” what can we replace those with? “recording” doesn’t really have the same, uh, snap.
