If anyone has ever thought about using HitFilm but was worried about the price, here’s a chance to get the light version for free.
The offer expires on Feb. 4 so grab it while you can.
They ask you to share it on Twitter or Facebook.
If you don’t have either of those, do what one user on another forum did.

I was able to download the free software without signing up for Twitter or Facebook. I clicked on the Twitter link, then I closed the Twitter window without signing up for Twitter. Hitfilms then prompted me to create an account (with Hitfilms). After that it gave me a serial number and sent me a email with an installer download. Installed and entered serial number.

Since it’s the light version, there are limitations as outlined here.

    Thanks for that information.
How does it interface with Vegas?
And… To get it do you just click on the “Try for Free” button?

Roger, you can render the project out as an MP4 (H.264 codec), AVI (DV NTSC, DV PAL and Uncompressed) or Image sequence (PNG, JPG and BMP) and bring that into Vegas.

If you have Pro 12, there’s a “right-click on an event – Add HitFilm Effect” option which launches HitFilm and adds it as a take.

I had no problems doing both when I played with it yesterday.

There’s a button on the bottom right of the page that I linked to that says “Get HitFilm2 Express Now”. Click on it and follow the prompts.

I forgot to mention that there are a number of tutorials on the HitFilm site with some dedicated to this specific version.

This one does not have an upgrade option but my suspicion is that when the offer expires next month, they will have an offer for anyone who did download it. Once again, this is an uneducated guess 🙂

thanks Mike. downloaded and installed. be aware that you can install on one machine only. I installed on studio pc then put it on home laptop so I can play around with it, but can only run in demo mode unless I deauthorise other install. fair enough given it’s a freebie! do the same restrictions apply to ultimate version? also; I can get a clip into hitfilm from vegas, but is there a way of automatically getting it back into vegas on the timeline at same position? or do we simply have to render out and manually replace the clip? ed

Good questions Eddie. I’m “hearing-you”. Different working paradigm – again….

Presently I’m straining to understand/see anything that I can’t already do with what I have with Vegas that would necessitate me learning a different paradigm that is contra to what I understand in Vegas. But I am always willing to learn.

Oh, BTW, I can’t add HF to a Vegas saved SubClip. Is this a developer’s “oops!”

    Grazie
