I just recently switched from Premiere, and I’m wondering if FCP has these 2 convenient features:

    1. Is there a history palette that shows the last several functions that you performed? Sometimes I hit shortcut keys without knowing what they do, and it would be nice to know how many levels of undo I need to do. Or sometimes I change filter parameters several times, and it would be nice to go back to a certain previous setting.

    2. Is it possible to zoom in on the timeline in the Viewer window, video tab? On big clips, it’s sometimes hard to precisely place the in and out points without zooming in. Looks like you can zoom in on the audio tab, but not on the video tab.

    No history palette.

Set your number of undos in Final Cut Pro > User Preferences

It is the parameter on the top right of the General Tab.

You can not zoom to the time line at the bottom of the Viewer.

Zoom to the time line (regardlesss of which window is active) with Option =

Command = zooms on the active window.

It will zoom to whatever is selected. If nothing is selected, it will zoom to the playhead.

Since I usually want to zoom to the play head, I usually precede my Option = with a Command 3 (makes the time line active) Command Shift A (deselects all.)

It is frustrating to move from one tool to another. Good luck with the adjustment

    Best,

    Tom

Thanks Tom. Not only am I new to FCP, but I’m also new to Macs. So I’m struggling a little here, but I’m sure it will get easier with experience. I am grateful that I’m able to get help from people like you and Creative Cow.

I think a history palette would be a great addition to FCP, so I’ll head over to Apple’s website and make a suggestion.
