Hissing Noise with DSLR and Shotgun Mic
Hello,
I just bought a new Audio Technica AT8035 condenser mic. I am using it with my Canon Rebel SL1 camera. It seems that when I have it plugged in, I have to turn the gain so high on the camera that there is a terrible hissing. I have a battery in the mic. I’m not sure what the problem is. Hopefully somebody can shed some light for me. Thanks.

Most DSLRs have very noisy preamps. You’ll be better off recording to an external recorder.

you can get something like “juicedlink” or “tascam dr70” to mount under the camera! yes, DSLR-preamps and connections are very bad, also the internal gain is noisy.
