  • Highlighting/Labeling clips in the timeline

    Hi,
I’m working in Final Cut Pro, and I’d like to highlight certain clips that are in my timeline. I’ve tried to use the “label” function, but this seems to only allow me to highlight a clip in the browser, and then, once I drag that clip into the timeline, it becomes highlighted there.

So I’m wondering if there is any way to simply highlight certain clips in my timeline (without having to go back to the browser, highlight the source clip, and then drag that one into the sequence to replace the non-highlighted clip I already have there)?
    Thanks very much,
    Ami

Yeah – I’ve wished for this feature for a while.

The easiest way to do it is highlight the clip in the timeline and Reveal Master Clip (SHIFT+F) – that will highlight it in the browser. You can then change the label color or use another shortcut (CMD+OPT+1, CMD+OPT+2, etc). The only drawback to this is it will highlight all the instances of this clip on the timeline with this same color, which you may not want.

you should be able to colour-label a clip in the timeline.

if it’s not there as a right click option,
    use the shortcuts.
    option apple 2-6.

    cheers,

I can right click or control click a clip in the timeline and change its label. It’s easily done. It’s a lame implementation because the color is applied in an obtrusive way that makes audio waveformsand the poster frame difficult to see but it works.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
