    Hello,

Quick question. I want to achieve the effect that I see in Documentaries and news stories where they are showing a news article or page of text and they highlight a word or sentence and dim everything else. So only that sentence/word is highlighted. How is this achieved? I’m pretty sure I need to use a mask.

    Thanks!

I would use the Rectangle Shape tool to create a shape that covers the newspaper article. Make the color black. Drop the opacity of the shape. Use the rectangle mask tool to cut a hole in the shape. Ad a Fade In Fade Out behavior to the shape and you are good to go. Best of luck.

An alternate method would be to clone your newspaper layer. Then drop the opacity of the original layer to make it dim. Use the mask shape to create your “highlight” on the clone layer and add a fade in/out behavior.
