Hi there, im having some basic problems with sound in FCP. Firstly I wonder how to stereo the sound effects, is it just a matter of panning on track to the left and the other to the right? or is there also a setting I have to toggle to allow FCP to output stereo sound?

Also I wonder how to isolate each track to pan them, When I import a sound effect, both of its tracks seem to be linked.

OK basic I know but I am new to FCP and am starting to enjoy using it… it was a hard change from avid but I believe with practice one can be equally adept at both 🙂

    Thank you

    Regards

Are you talking about a single sound panned both ways? Most sound effects are mono tracks that are panned center which would play out of both speakers. If you want an effect to come out the left side and not the right you could pan it left (example, door slams off camera on that side of the room.

Opt L will break a Stereo pair (note: the triangles will disappear)

Hi, thank you that is actually very helpful, It was important for me to know how to pan the tracks independently. But also I do have some stereo fx and music, I know in avid their was a radio button to check called “pan tracks left and right” and for some reason that had to be checked or when exporting the tracks would center no matter how you had panned them in your timeline.

So I do wonder about the method of properly dealing with stereo sound in FCP.

    Thank you
