    I’m fairly new to after effects and just have very vague idea on how to achieve this, what I have in mind is to make a freeze frame but have no idea how to resume the frame after I’m done doing some effects on that frame.. I don’t even know if that is the correct method so a little help on where to begin or the concept on how they made it will really help…

    You can use time remapping, which is probably the easiest way. But you can also duplicate your layer, freeze one at the frame you want to edit. Then cut the second layer at exactly that point, and split it for the duration of layer one.
