HEVC 1080×1920 AAC with QT wrapper will import but not playback in PR. I had to take all the files and convert them to h264 with handbrake and then bring them back into my project in order to be editable. They would import but would stutter and have pixelated edges like an old film strip if imported natively before conversion. Even if I tried to render them first, they would not play or be editable. Very small files @8-10 mb each but had about 60 of them to convert.

Editor Used- On the mac side- iMac Pro 2017- 3GHZ 10 Core Intel Xenon, GFX card Radeon Pro Vega 61 – 16 GB -so lots of power. OS Big Sur vs 11.2.3- PR cc vs 15.

I couldn’t find anything on Adobe or PR forums that had this issue. Most of them were with just importing and a codec issue. I could not find the issue of them importing fine but not playing correctly. As a note I received no codec error messages when I did a direct HEVC import.

If anyone is experiencing this issue and has figured out how not to convert the files first, please let me know. I’d love to save time on projects now that the new phones are shooting this codec.

HEVC is not meant to be edited. Highly compressed.

Best is to convert to prores first.
