    I have a project – NTSC/DV/DVCPRO
I have sources coming from everywhere! JPGS, NTSC 720×480 and 486 … animation codec or NTSC …
I received some digitized footage from the same post house … all of the clips are ANIMATION, but some of the clips are “straight” alpha and others are “none/ignore” So… obviously the clips that are “straight” won’t play in my NTSC DV/DVCPRO sequence/project. Also, when they are in preview monitor I may only see the image during playback however it does not show an image when on heads or in pause.
My usually fix is to change composite to alpha and they show up on the sequence but not is the case now. Furthermore … when I try to export to a FCP file to re-import it it shows up with black screen but audio is there. I would assume that I am missing a CODEC in FCP but A. My system is definatly up to date and B. when I open up outside of FCP say in Quicktime and export with identical settings, it works. I can re-import and all is good. I would normally just do this for each clip and not bother anyone but I have SO MANY clips and would love to do a batch export but QT does not have this function…
    Any thoughts???
as always – thanks so much in advanced for any help!
    all the best

If you do this, you only use the Alpha channel of the Animation clip. This only make sense working with three layers. If you set a clip with Alpha in the V1 layer of FC, and change the composite mode to Travel Matte Alpha, you can only get a Black (and audio if there is one).
Anyway, if you are exporting Apple NTSC DV, you can not export any Alpha channel. Apple DV do not support Alpha.

[joey Rossetti] ” all of the clips are ANIMATION, but some of the clips are “straight” alpha and others are “none/ignore” “ To export Animation with Alpha , you need to set “Colors: Millions+”. If you export “Colors: Millions” the Alpha will disappear and will be filled with a black.
Joey, your post is a bit confusing. I don’t know if what you are trying to do is to export the Animation as DV NTSC and keeping the Alpha or what.
In the top of this page there is a link to the FC Tutorials. There is one about Travel Mattes from Walter Biscardi.
