project is uncompressed 1080i 59.94…48 minute for tv show…offline sent us a compressed SD quicktime that we use for reference to make sure cuts are correct..etc…

we conform the show, color correct and spit out to SR. We seem to be having playback issues on the sequence…the original clips play back fine…the clips in the timeline play back fine…here’s the funny part…we place the reference quicktime on the timeline…we then have to render to watch everything back…plays fine…we remove the quicktime, re-render…it now looks like the fields are inverted, playback is slower than realtime, and everything is jittery.

now here is the weird part…we can replace the quicktime…drop the opacity to 0, render, and it works fine…weird huh? it’s like removing the QT is screwing up not only the field order, but the playback speed as well.

    Any ideas?

at first we thought drives, but the original uncompressed HD media plays back fine…only after the QT is rendered on the top layer, and then removed does it playback weird…

    TIA

Time to trash your prefs, do a permissions repair and restart.

    Have a wonderful day.

Not sure I totally follow what you are doing….BUT

It sounds like you are putting an SD Quicktime into an HD sequence….FCP is then changing the field order of your sequence to lower field first (SD is lower, HD is upper) AND adding the “Shift Fields” filter to your all your HD footage to match the SD field order. When you remove the Quicktime, the “Shift Fields’ filter remains on all your clips, so you now have problems. Double click one of your HD clips and look in the filters tab…do you see the Shift Fields filter. If so remove them all by selecting all your clips and using the “Remove Attributes” command.

so, that is exactly what it looks like is happening…but there is no effect on the clip….unfortunately, we can’t start removing things because we have lots of other filters applied on many clips….I think we’ll work around it this time, and worry about outputting it…then we’ll investigate some more…thanks for your ideas though…if you have any more, please feel free to throw them out there.

If you need to remove just one filter from clips with many filters, try these:

To remove one or more selective filters (within a timeline or a complete project) you can also use my free “removeFilter“.

thanks…i’ll check those out…but since there is no filter showing up that would cuase this…we’re working around it by lowering opacity for now
