I have a friend who shot some footage using a Sony HDV (model HVR-Z1U) in HDV1080i mode. It was captured into FCP using the HDV1080i60 easy setup with no modifications. His machine is the MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo and he used Final Cut Studio Pro.

He just dragged the video files onto a Lacie HD. However, when I try to import the video to my MacPro all I get is a white screen in QTpro as well as Final Cut Express HD.

I’m obviously missing a codec but don’t know which one?? Do I need the DVC pro HD codec and if so can I get that outside of Final Cut Studio Pro?? Or is there another way around this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need the HDV codec.

I think you can only get that with a fcp install.

    Thanks,

Is there a way that he can export it differently so I don’t have to get FCP?

    You need Final Cut Pro.

Final Cut Pro and Final Eut Express handel video differently.

To use HDV footage captured in Final Cut pro on another mashine you need to have the same version of Final Cut Pro on the other machine.

He could convert it to AIC (which FCE is using for HDV), but that’ll take some time.
