I want to have a smoke trail through my project like a rotating smoke entity type thing.

I’m using a null object (3D layer) to influence the position of the smoke. I have a trail set up but in order to give it the right effect (darker edges and greyish centre) I’ve put the particle transfer to Add.

However, this causes the smoke trail to randomly flare or change colour. The flares I learnt to live with but now as I near the end of my project the smoke has turned brown!

I thought it was possibly due to light affecting it. I was advised to change the material options to accept lights: off. I could do this with the null object but on my solid created for the particular effect I don’t get this option. However, upon turning off light layer it seemed to make no difference to the smoke colour anyway!

I’ve played about with every setting I can think of. Can anyone guess what could potentially be influencing the colour of the smoke or how I could create the same effect without these problems?

    Thanks

Particular is applied to a 2D layer and hence it doesn’t interact with lights.

In the Particular options dialog, there are settings for handling shadows and Blending Modes. There is also particle color (effects control panel) that may be helpful.
