Hi there, I have a vegas session, 4K, with about 6 videos in the session. Minimal effects. Just levels/brightness kind of effects. I used Handbrake to re-render make sure all the videos had a constant frame rate etc.

The thing will barely play even with the preview window set to “draft quarter”. What the heck?

Can anyone suggest something so that I can simply work and see what I’m doing? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Render out to a proxy file. That will allow for fluid playback.

Thanks. Not sure what you mean… I’m trying to edit the multiple clips this session contains. Do you mean render them together?

You are working with 4k video content, you wont get smooth playback if your system is not powerful enough. Plus, the Vegas Preview window playback is not like a media player, you wont get smooth playback with everything.

What i use is the “Dynamic Ram Preview” on sections by sections during edit, to get a perfect feedback as i go along, as to what my final render will look like.

I’m learning about proxies, thanks! The dynamic preview thing will really help in the meantime! Appreciate it! Cheers

Jono, I’m now universally using Happy Otter Scripts’s Kwik Preview. Like Shift+B, Build RAM Preview, it is also volatile but is both Faster and doesn’t take RAM away from the RAM reserve. It is STUNNING! I’m using MagicRGBA (yes, that’s MAGIC and not MAGIX!) as the encoder which is in itself blisteringly fast. Anybody making complex graphic and texture rich environments, would do well to explore it.

Getting your narrative/story succinct is what Editing is all about. Seeing it work on screen in the fastest way is always a boon.
