  • Help with importing files

    Greetings!
Last time I wrote that the computer states the files on my DVD are .mov, yet when I import them they register as .vob.

You responded “Are you ripping files from a DVD?
If so, use the File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc option and follow the prompts. Be patient while the files load and get converted from VOBs to MPGs.”

I did this – It supposedly worked. The process took over 3 hours (first 75% took 11 minutes.) My friend watched the computer and said it finished.

My friend has an auto wipe for all installations in C: Today I reinstalled the program entirely. The files for yesterday´s import were also gone. I started over by importing the same DVD. Vegas tells me “The file is an unsupported format.” The DVD had no problem beginning to import yesterday.

Further, when I request the video import to begin, the DVD drive does not activate to check the contents.

    Your guidance please?

THANK YOU. I greatly appreciate you!

I have no idea what this might be but it sounds very nasty and is probably at the heart of your problem.

This is not a good sign. I guess that “auto wipe” wiped out more than you bargained for. There is no telling what might be messed up from the wipe process. Perhaps system drivers for the DVD burner got wiped out? I would consult with your friend since they are the ones that caused the problem.

Start by seeing if other applications can use the DVD drive like DVD player software. Something is obviously missing form before the auto wipe. I would never recommend using such a program, especially one that wiped out your data files as well.

    Thank you.
Unfortunately my friend has almost no technical knowledge, and certainly is of no help.

Is anyone familiar with the error message and can give direction? I would appreciate any solid information or suggestions.

    Thank you!

I gave you suggestions. Can you access the drive from windows? Does it show files? Can you play the DVD with DVD software like WinDVD? If Windows can’t access the DVD, Vegas will never be able to. You need to determine if there is a problem with Windows and the DVD drive first since we don’t know the extent of the damage that your friend cause to the PC.

I apologize for not writing what I was thinking!

I can access the drive from windows. It showes files. I can play the disc with a media player. It seems to function perfectly fine when I ask the computer to work with the DVD – It only gives the error message when I ask Vegas to import it.
And when I asked it to import the disc a few days ago, there was no error message at all!

    Thank you SO much!
