Help with bin duplication
Okay, I’m fairly new here and this post is not that creative, but I’m stumped. I am working on Avid Adrenaline Windows Professional. Here is my situatiion: I have a bin of master clips in my project with media currently online. Now I want to copy all of the clip information and assign a new tape to it so that I can digitize off of a completely new tape which has identical clip timecode as the original tape. I tried to duplicate the bin in the project folder and throw it over to a Medialogging station where I renamed the bin and modified the clips to reflect the new tape. When I sent the bin back over and dropped it into the Adrenaline project folder, it still references the old media. Is there any way I can avoid having to relog a completely new bin. Note: I do want to keep the original media attached to the original bin. I just want a dupicate bin with the media offline. How can I do this?

I think I might have figured it out. I exported the bin as an ALE and dropped it back into the project after modifying the clips. The media is offline so that is good. Unless there is a better way, I guess I’ll just stick with this one.

That is the best way to do it. Make sure to edit the TAPE names in the text editor before importing back in.

Right. I just modified the clip tape names in the media logging station and sent it back over and dropped the bin into the project folder. I’m wondering though, do I need to even go to that logging station? Could I export the bin to the desktop as an ALE. Go and reimport it back into the project, change the name of the bin, open it up and modify the clip tape names then or would that freak the system out? Or would the Avid associate the clips with the original tape before I got the chance to modify the clip tape names?

You want to change the tape name when it exists as a ALE file in text form on your desktop to remove any possibility of TAPE MOB conflicts. Just use a text editor with search and replace capabilities.
