    Hi All
I’m following a tutorial in a book called After Effects 6.5 magic by adobe and newriders.

Below is the instructions I’ve followed but can’t get the squares to animate.

1)Create new composition named horizontal zoom, and set its duration to 720 x 540, the frame rate to 29.97 and the duration to 5;00 seconds.
    2) Create a new solid (RGB: 236, 82, 2) with the dimensions 720×720.
    3) press the S key to display the layer’s scale property, and then set it to 25,25%.
    4) Duplicate the layer.
5)Select both layers in the timeline, press A to display theiranchor point properties and then set the property for each layer as follws: layer 1: 715,715 Layer 2: 0,0

so you should have 2 orange squares diganoly opposite each other.

    1) go to time 0;20, select both layers, and press P to display their position properties.
2)Add position keyframes for both layers with the value of 360,270.
    3) go back to time 0;05, and move layer 1 off the screen to the right (position: 920,2700.
    4) Move layer 2 off the screen to the left (position: -210, 270).
press the home key and then the spacebar to preview the animation. The squares should be offscreen to begin withh and then slide in horizontaly, pass each other and stop kitty-corner to one another.

I’ve follwed the above but it doesn’t happen and somethin is goin on in the little top right hand panel where the fps turns to read and say not relative.

I’m new to after effects can anyone help?

    Cheers

    Mark

[hypuk06] “3) go back to time 0;05, and move layer 1 off the screen to the right (position: 920,2700.”

You may want to check that value. My book has it as 920, 270.

Since this is the first lesson in the book, I’d suggest starting over fresh. Make sure you’re familiar with the terminology. You may even want to go over a tutorial in our library by Andrew Kramer first:

This is a basic tutorial for AE 6.5 — shows the interface and some important first steps.

For a beginner, AE can be daunting, but we’ve all been there. Don’t get discouraged.
