  • Help: Spline/ rope Dynamics interaction, linkage and connection in mooring system.

Hi all, i am currently working on a animation to show how a boat mooring systems works but I’m having problems with the spline / rope dynamics of the scene. The mooring system is made up of a series of ropes which connect to 4 floor anchors and two boui’s. See below for the set up.

    My questions are
1)how do i link up a system to interact so when the boui or boat moves the whole system moves.
2)How do i limit the ropes stretch as the blue ropes (see picture) are made of rubber and stretch but the middle rope is mafe of steel and wont stretch
3)how do i simulate current on the ropes?

Sorry for all the questions but i’m at lose end and not sure where to start.

    Any help is appreciated

    Kindest Regards
    Gary

I tried some tests with Hair’s Spline Dynamics but I was getting bad behavior of the spline between the ends.

I don’t have any more time but my next guesses would be bones (let them separate for the rubber keep them connected for the steel) the problem would be the chunkiness the bones would give to the look of the ropes.

So maybe Cloth, fix the one end and belt the other to the buoy, control the stretch (or not) with the cloth properties
