  • Help! Sony Catalyst Browse wrecked my Vegas Pro (Error 0xc0000005)

Posted by Sean Michael on December 10, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Recently I installed Sony Catalyst Browse to stabilize my A7C footage. After installing the software, my copies of Vegas Pro WILL NOT OPEN. Vegas now crashes immediately when opening as the “initializing GPU-accelerated video processing” notice appears.

    The Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)

I have tried uninstalling Catalyst Browse, reinstalling Vegas, and also installing the latest version of Vegas (18). Nothing works. Now Vegas will not open at all, regardless of the version.

I’m at my wit’s end, on the verge of wiping the entire hard drive and starting fresh. But surely there is a fix. Any ideas? THANKS!

Try this link, which contains specific steps to follow in order to get rid of any traces of Vegas. Good Luck!

hmm.. no issue to me after updating the Catalyst Browse.

Try update the graphic driver & sound driver.

From a cmd prompt, run driverquery to see if Catalyst installed an incompatible driver.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. Still no luck, but I will be working on the problem more today. The reason I know it was Catalyst Browse that caused the problem is that I use 3 different laptops to edit video… On two of the laptops I installed Catalyst Browse, and Vegas immediately began crashing. Thankfully I realized what was happening before installing Catalyst Browse on my 3rd laptop! So I at least still have one that works for editing.

I know it has something to do with OpenCL.dll and Vegas’ GPU-accelerated video processing. I would recommend VEGAS users avoid Catalyst Browse (at all costs!).

Catalyst always install a openCL-CPU runtime package during its install. Try going into your “Programs and Features” folder and uninstall it and see.

I had this same problem last Friday with Magix Movie Studio Pro Platinum and Catalyst Browse after an install. They both would crash upon opening. I found this link to fix the problem and it worked. I hope it helps.

Wow! Thanks Don, this fix seems to have worked! I really appreciate you and everyone else for taking the time to reply to this thread.

For future reference, if anyone else has this problem on Windows 10:

Open your Start menu and click the Settings button. From the Settings menu, choose Apps & Features. Enter “OpenCL” in the box labeled Search this list. If “Intel SDK for OpenCL” appears in the search results, select and uninstall it
