Help! Premier Pro CS3 won’t load/open
Posted by Jeff Bishop on July 9, 2008 at 1:40 pmWhen I try to open CS3 I get the purple box as usual and it tries to open and then disappears and I’m left with the desktop. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall my CS3 (which I’d rather not do) or is there another way? My Encore program (and others) seem fine.

July 9, 2008 at 1:45 pmDid you install anything lately?
I’d use System Restore to see if that fixes anything?
– Jon 😉
Otherwise you may need to reinstall. Was it working before? What system are you using? How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

July 9, 2008 at 11:19 pmThanks for your reply Jon. I haven’t installed any new programs lately.
Does system restore completely reset the computer? (i.e clean off the hard drives, etc) How do I get to system restore? I’m running Windows XP Professional on a computer we had someone build for editing so I don’t know all the specs. I’ve done about 10 projects so far and it’s worked great. But tough to edit when the program won’t open! -

July 12, 2008 at 7:26 amTry setting up a new account on your computer and opening it from the new account. Not sure why it makes a difference but it does.
Good luck

July 13, 2008 at 4:31 pmThanks for replying Patty. When you say “try setting up a new account on your computer and opening it from the new account” are you talking about a new account with Adobe? Could you please tell me what type of account you were referring to? Also, any tips on how to set it up would be greatly appreciated! I’m about to do a full system restore tomorrow to fix the problem and I would be so happy to not have to do that. Thanks so much to those who have replied to my post.

July 14, 2008 at 4:48 amSorry I should have been more specific. Set up a new windows user account. Log on With that account and try opening premier from there. I had it crash after I installed it. I contacted Adobe tech support because no matter what I did it still crashed like yours is doing. The only solution we could come up with was to go into windows admin and create a new user. Once I did that then logged in under that account and opened premier it opened and worked fine. If you have any other questions you can always email me as I check my email a lot during the day.

July 14, 2008 at 7:22 pmI have access to my Priemier Pro again! It turned out to be the way the preferences had gotten re-configured over time in the PP CS3 program (workspaces, etc.) Just saved at the last minute from a complete system restore. Thanks Patty for your suggestions!

OPEN FOLDER: MY DOCUMENTS/ADOBE/PREMIERE PRO/3.0/LAYOUTS/
THEN DELETE FILE: WORKSPACECONFIG.XML (DON’T WORRY, PREMIERE WILL MAKE A NEW ONE)

February 19, 2009 at 4:59 pmThanks for nothing! Did this and whammy, can’t get into Premier Pro any longer. Get a message “You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or Adobe customer support for help.”
You just made for way more work for me. TEEHEE HEEE HEEE. -

March 17, 2009 at 8:44 pmDO NOT DO THIS! You will not be able to open premiere! People come here for help Joseph JahJa, not to be deceived! Unlike yourself, we are under deadlines and need to try to find fixes for our problems, not add to them!
