  • Help please for new FCP user. Trying to convert a slideshow to flash

Posted by Ron Holtz on December 29, 2009 at 6:39 pm

I am a professional photographer putting the final touches on a slideshow created in FCP(brand new user). I was told not to output to QT but rather use an app. like Visual Hub to convert the file to flv.
Visual Hub is now defunct. What is the absolute best way to get this slideshow online? I have seen it done as a flv file in the past and it looked fine.
    720X480 files with music.
Thank so much for any input.

Export as an h.264 Quicktime, then simply change the suffix from .mov to .flv.

I export to QT (self-contained movie – usually prores422) then use Visual Hub (drop the QT movie into Visual Hub) to convert to flv (I use GO NUTS setting- 2 pass). There are numerous FLASH converter programs available for MAC. Thus, a valid work flow is: (a) Export a QT movie from FCP, (b) then drop the movie into FLASH conversion software, (c) upload to website. This is my work flow. Having a high-quality QT master allows you to convert to numerous file types (DVD, Blu-Ray, Flash, iPhone, etc).
There are surely other workflows to achieve what you need. smilez d

If you’re using DV at 720×480, remember to de-interlace and scale back to square pixels for web delivery. You could probably find a copy of VH around the net with a google search or torrent search. It’s still by far one of the best and easiest converters to use. The author of VH gave away the source and a few people have tried to keep it going but no much action on it lately. See here: https://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/31954
