  • HELP! On-going problem capturing to FCP from my JVCHD100

I keep having issues when recording from my JVC GY-HD100u in HDV 30p mode.
While capturing, different parts of the recording are missing because it searched for timecode or something. I miss some sections of the content because of this. It can be during a take where I dont stop recording too! I dont ever rewind my footage so I dont know why its doing this. It’s especially problematic when conducting an interview and I miss some important info. This problem does not happen in SD mode. I can see the footage recorded on tape but it just doesn’t capture. Any Suggestions?

You don’t say what version of FCP you are using or what type of Mac.

If you are using FCP6 try capturing as ProRes. Here’s how https://www.steadi-onfilms.com.au/vlog/?p=61

If you are using a desktop tower and have second internal SATA drive use that to capture your media, if not and you are using an external firewire drive disconnect any other unnecessary firewire devices.

Cinematographer, Steadicam Operator, Final Cut Pro Post Production.

This is a very common problem between FCP and JVC ProHD. The best way to avoid the problem is to capture with DVHSCap and wrap the files with ClipWrap. You can download DVHSCap here… https://mac.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/Apple-FireWire-SDK-X.shtml
    It’s part of the firewiresdk.
