Help needed Vegas 8! I can’t see HDV .mov files…
Hey, I have just recieved a hard drive from a client with 600 Gigs of captured video that I need to go through and edit. He captured in Final Cut Pro as that is what he uses. I only know Vegas and have Vegas 8. When I pull in the file, all I see is two audio tracks…
Anybody have any ideas? Is there a way around it?? I really don’t want to have to go learn FCP…

you may want to ask what the clients’ settings were when they imported to FCP. Maybe you can get the codec necessary to read those files.
also, if they shot in HDV on miniDV tape, you could always ask them for the source footage and import it yourself.
Vegas should read HDV footage, but they usually have a different file extension “m2t”. Maybe if you change the file extension it will work, if it is truly HDV.
Also do you have Quicktime Pro installed. That may include some apple codecs necessary to read the files correctly.

The latest free version of QuickTime includes Apple’s new ProRes codec for PCs so, if it was done with this, you should be able to read it.

Thanks much! It definitely was captured on a sony Z7HDV cam, and captured in Final Cut Pro. My last question is… do I need to buy the 30 dollar quicktime 7 pro for windows on the apple site, or can i download the codec for free somewhere?
