Okay, well I bought an hp m8120n computer about 3 months ago and it is running windows xp and it has a tv tuner card and dvr and all that stuff. Well I use it for premiere pro and after effects currently, but I was thinking of stepping up to avid xpress pro. I read that Avid doesn’t yet support vista. What should I do? I thought about getting XP Pro, but then I wouldn’t be able to use the dvr function because that is through Windows Media Center. Does anyone have any advice they can give me? Does anyone have an idea when Vista will be supported? Thanks

If you’re going to try to run Avid on this system I’d suggest dual booting, and providing all of your specs here before you purchase the software. We need to know what processors you’re running, your storage setup, graphics card, driver for the graphics card, etc… Avid is extemely picky about what it runs on–Premiere, not so much.

When will Avid be ready for Vista? When it’s ready. That’s all anyone who can say knows. For now, buy another hard drive and install XP Pro on it then dual boot your system. Go to Windows Media Center for your DVR stuff (actually, depending on your tuner card, you should look at MythDora–Linux PVR and it ROCKS), then restart and go to XP Pro for your Avid stuff. This will also help in case there are conflicts between your DVR software and Avid.

Check the Avid system requirements for Xpress Pro–your system need to match exactly or pretty close to run Avid. Let us know your specs and we’ll point out possible trouble spots.
