OK I WANT TO GET MY BF A VDAY GIFT OF AN APPLE COMP. B/C HE’S WANTING TO DO DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION AND VERY INTERESTED IN IT. I KNOW HE WANTS FINAL CUT PRO ON THERE. I AM BY NO MEANS EDUCATED IN THIS FIELD. EVERYTHING I HAVE WRITTEN HERE IS BASED ON WHAT HE’S BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE PAST FEW MONTHS.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT EXACTLY I NEED TO BUY AS FAR AS COMP. (WE HAVE THE NEW PHILIPS ABILIGHT 37’LCD HD TV THAT CAN HOOK UP TO A COMPUTER (WHICH I COULD BE WRONG BUT HE SAID THE PICTURE ON IT WOULD BE AMAZING IF HE HOOKED UP THE COMP TO IT?? LOL NOW I’M PROVING I HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT THIS STUFF). ALSO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SOFTWARE AND A DIGITAL CAMCORDER(???) THANKS I’VE TRIED TO LOOK AT DIFFERENT SITES BUT ITS ALL LIKE A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO ME…I NEED TO HAVE IT PUT TO ME STRAIGHT FORWARD AND ONLY THE BEST STUFF (AFFORDABLE W/I REASON)AND PERFECT FOR HIS NEW HOBBY. OH YA AND ITS A HOBBY NOT NECESSARILY A JOB YET…BUT HE’S WANTING IT TO GO IN THAT DIRECTION. HE’S WANTING TO MAKE VIDEO GAME INTROS??? SO IF SOMEONE COULD HELP THEN YA’LL ARE THE BOMB.

You’re looking at about a minimum of a $6,000 gift with the camcorder.

MacBook Pro 15″ 2.16 GHz Intel Core2Duo – might want to up it to more than 1 Gig of RAM though.
    Final Cut Studio

Camcorder you’ll have to do research on.

I think it really depends on how much you want to spend. You can buy a computer system off the apple website from between 1200 and 4 thousand dollars. The Final Cut Pro software is 1300 dollars, and you can spend anywhere from 300 to 3000 dollars on a digital camera. Again it really depends on what you want to spend.
    Good luck.

You might want to buy the whole package from a reseller. Then it will be tested and ready to go, and they can explain your choices to you.

Some on this site have recommended Promax and WH Platts.

Getting best stuff for a hobby is stupid. 3. The best stuff is not affordable. Your budget provides entry level gear at best. 4. Video game intros is not a field you just start making money at; gaming companies have very good producers. 4a. It's like buying a stock racing car before you know how to drive. 4b. It's like buying a rack of mountain climbing gear when you live in Florida and, besides, you don't really like to travel. 5. Your biggest investment should be in animation training and deep film production and effects creation long you buy stuff. 6. You asked for straight, here's the straight stuff: This is a waste of money. Put it in your IRA or your child's college fund. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK. I DON’T CARE IF THEY ARE ALWAYS ON WHEN YOU ARE USING YOUR COMPUTER. TURN THEM OFF WHEN YOU POST HERE. INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.

Pick up an iMac with Final Cut Express. If he’s only interested in doing video game intros, he does not need a full blown FCP system.
