Help – Export 23.98 Sequence to DVD
I have a 23.98 sequence using FCP 5, The Footage was originally at 29.97 with pull-down, i removed the pull-down to get a effective frame rate of 23.976 via after effects. Great so everything looks good in FCP. Question is, do i need to add pulldown 29.97 for correct DVD playback? How do i do that? I tried exporting using quicktime conversion using 29.97 frame rate and i am not seeing the two interlaced frames?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In the Final Cut bin where your assets are, slide the bar over to find the properties of your assets.
The quicktime file is 23.98 and the sequence matches that too, correct? All that information should be in there.
Assuming that’s true, export from Final Cut using Compressor. Duplicate a pre-set for MPEG II and modify the copy so that the frame rate for that compression is 23.98. Run that and you’ll end up with a 23.98 MPEG II file.
Import that into DVD Studio Pro and you’re good to go.
NOTE that DVD Studio Pro will report it as being a 29.97 fps file. I assume this is because DVD players add the pulldown back in and DVD SP is just reporting it that way since that’s how it will be seen to the end user. I wish it would identify 23.98 clips as such, but it doesn’t. I don’t know if this is a bug or done on purpose, but from my experiments it doesn’t matter. The DVD will come out just like you want it, as a 23.98 disc.
