Help!! DV capture problem with Sony Vegas

Hi – I sure hope someone can help me with this.

I need to capture some DV footage of a friend’s wedding from my Sony HVR-A1P. The problem I have is that when I click the capture icon in Vegas, I get the error message “The Device Microsoft DV Camera and VCR could not be opened. Please check that it is not being used by another user or application”

Here’s some relevent information:
I’m using Windows 7 and Sony Vegas 9C (64bit)
I can capture HDV without a problem i.e. if I set the camera to HDV and uncheck the VidCap60 application in Vegas, my system captures HDV without a problem.
There’s nothing wrong with the DV footage – it plays fine on my camera.
There’s nothing wrong with my firewire connection – in fact I can launch another DV capture application and although it won’t capture the video (i.e. same prob. as VidCap60) it will allow me to control the tape transport (ff, rewind etc)

I’ve tried changing the firewire driver to legacy, and I’ve tried uninstalling it and letting Windows detect the camera in DV mode and install the appropriate driver (Windows installs the Texas Instruments OHCI compliant 1394 driver)

One thing I’ve noticed – if I connect the camera, start Vegas and launch VidCap60, and then switch the camera on in DV mode, I get momentary success i.e. the “device found” message (and the Sony HVR-A1P splash screen) appears for about 1/2 a second, and then is replaced by the error message (the device…could not be opened). If I monitor the processes in task manager at the same time, the process DeviceDisplayObjectProvider.exe becomes active for about 1/2 a second and then drops out. I’m wondering if this process is normally kicked off when VidCap60 detects the camera and starts capturing i.e. the fact that it appears momentarily on my system and then drops out seems to suggest that something else is killing the process and causing the capture to fail.

I could be clutching at straws here, but at this stage straws is all I have. So please, if there’s anyone with any ideas as to what my problem might be, I’d be very grateful for your help.

Try capturing in Vegas 32 bit.

Are you saying that I should try the 32bit version of Vidcap60? I’ve tried a couple of other 32bit capture programs (AVS Recorder, Debut Video Capture – none of them will capture a DV stream.

I’ve also tried running VidCap60 in all the compatibility modes that are available with Windows7 – no luck with any of them…
