Help converting an old FCP7 project?
Hi everyone,
I started a family history documentary project in Summer 2010 using FCP7. Unfortunately, the project fell off the next year and I never converted it to FCPX. I still have the project files and all the raw footage on an external hard drive, but I have no way to open the project. The computer that was running FCP7 is long gone, and my current Macbook Air (2015) running Mojave can’t run FCP7 even if I could get my hands on it. Of course, FCPX won’t open the FCP7 files. Any suggestions on what I might be able to do? Do I need to find someone with an old Mac running FCP7? If so, where should I go to look? I live in Chicago.

Maybe try REDDIT for local FCP users.
I would have to resurrect a 2012 cheese grater to get FCP back have had to a few times over the years.Good luck hope you find someone local.

I’ve got an old MacPro with FCS7 installed and functioning. If you’re comfortable sending the project file, I’ll export an XML with media offline that you can use to re-link. Do you still have the original media and render files / folders?

Thanks so much for your response! I’m sorry for the late response–I thought I’d get replies via email but didn’t. I still have all the original media and render files, along with the project file. It’s all on an external hard drive. What would be the easiest way to send them to you and what would you need me to include? Thank you!

Hey Jonah,
I don’t really need anything other than the project file itself. Offline media can be re-linked once it’s converted – I’ll import it into a fresh library and do a quick visual check.
