  • Help capturing 1080psf 23.98

I’m sorry all, I’ve had this problem before. I’m a motion graphics guy who is a little new to some of this stuff.

I’m onlining an edit from an Avid sequence. Used Automatic Duck to pull the Avid project over… project is 1080 23.98. Got selects back on DVCPRO HD tape. drive hooked up. When I try to Batch capture offline clips in 1080 psf23.98, i get the green lines, locked picture, etc… sync off. If I change to 1080i 29.97, picture syncs. We have a trilevel sync in the patch bay… Do I need to patch sync both to FCP ref and to the HD drive? I’m sorry, like I said, I’m green when it comes to hardware issues. I just need to reconnect the 1080p 23.98 offlines project to the online footage.

    Thanks for your help.

DVCPro HD tape does not run at 23.98. Ever. At 1080i, it’s only 29.97 or 50 FPS. 23.98 is laid down on 29.97 with 2:3 pulldown.

If your capture card supports the real time removal of pulldown, you can digitize it directly from 29.97 to 23.98.

If not, you’ll have to use Cinema Tools to convert your EDL from 24 to 30, digitize at 29.97, then use Cinema Tools to reverse the telecine and reconnect the 24fps timeline to that media.

    Thank you Arnie

The tape is definitely 60i, 24psf… I have a Kona LHe which should remove pulldown… I did try capturing 1080i, but I get a timecode break on every clip to where it pauses, rewinds, etc.

Another weird thing is, after setting 1080i 29.97 in my easy setup, and trying to batch capture one offline clip, it acts as if it captures, opens a box that says continue, then opens the capture window again and goes through the whole process again… it does this 3 or 4 times then brings up a window that says”

Batch capture encountered timecode breaks in sequence items. To protect your edits, these clips were left offline and not divided into separate clips.”

What deck control and capture presets are you using?

You’re using a Panasonic deck, so try switching the control to 59.94 Panasonic. They maybe try one of the 23.98PsF presets.

What deck are you using? If it’s the 1200 or 1400, you have to put the deck in 23/24 mode and it will output 1080psf via HDSDI. THe deck will remove the pulldown for oyu.

Guys, I’m sorry. I’m a complete idiot. I typed DVCPRO HD when I meant HDCAM. It’s been a stressful morning.
