    as you might guess, camera 1 at wedding. Tape jamed on rewind in my trusty old VX1000. Appeared wound around a steel pin numerous times…had to cut tape. Camera issues aside, any advise on recovering the rest of the footage?

    Mike,
    Wow, that’s bad! For my limited knowledge, I assume you are using MiniDV, like other tapes, you can savage the intact portion of the tape by opening up the DV casset, and manually reattaching the cutted end to the wheel. ie. in the back of the miniDV, unscrew the tapes, take it apart. Take out the red stopper, attach the cutted end to the red stopper… Play and record onto another tape or capture to the HD…

    Good luck. More importantly, find out why the tape got stuck in your VX1000 and how to prevent it from happening.

    If mending mini-DV tape is like mending audio cassette tapes, then a procedure I’ve used many times successfully is to overlap the ends to be joined, cut together at a 45
