    Hi all-
I’m obviously missing something, no doubt something basic.
    I’m just beginning a sequence in 720p 30fps in FCP 5 for a client-
The original footage was given to me as quicktimes- most set to 720p at 29.97.
Why is it when I load them into the sequence they are
needing to be rendered out? I was under the impression that if the material was supported by FCP and imported into a like sequence they would play out in real time.
Any thoughts… I’m under a real tight deadline, and not sure the work flow to follow.
How would any of you go about it??

What are your sequence settings at and what are the settings on your media (especially compressor, pixel aspect ratio, etc)? Chances are something’s hinky there. Do the files playback fine in the Viewer?

What CODEC? 720p is not a codec, it is a frame size. H.264? DVCPRO HD? ProRes? And 720p is a 60fps format…59.94, not 29.97. You can only work with that format if you twist FCPs arm.

Yes, if the material is supported by FCP then you won’t have to render. But what format are you working with is the question. Again, 720p is not a format.
