1.) How do you control a background? I need to be able to FADE a background

I need to fade the background template in slowly (it’s a still) and I need the cog logo to slowly zoom closer and we pass entirely through the center hole.

1) You can use some of the “Brightness Effects” emitters from the May 2001 library to do fades. You may have to do some fiddling with the timing Visibility graph, but the effects are there. As for panning and moving a background, there’s just no way to do it in pI, unless you bring the image in as a particle shape and use it as a single particle emitter.
2) Animating the Zoom graph will increase the size of the entire emitter. It it’s an area emitter or circle/ellipse, you’ll have to animate the width-height or radius graphs as well. That will zoom the particles, but it won’t zoom your background. You’d have to do that in an editing or compositing program.

Ahh figures I would find (just after 1 day of playing around) one of the only things PI doesn’t do. Maybe on the next upgrade they can put the same kind of controls on b/g that they do for emitters.
Next question then, how do I create a custom made emitter of that logo shape. I basically need it as a template to be able to trace the fire patterns, then I need to drop it down to nearly invisible. GREAT idea about making it as an emitter and not a b/g. I basically just need the shape of it with an orange glow (non-moving) around it.
