I inherited a final FCP project that was shot and edited in HDV, and the Kona LH does a marvelous job of outputting to SD via component to a standalone DVD recorder, but the compressed files I was given to use in DVDSTPRO look like hammered dog sh*t. The other editor tried to compress to 90 minute 2-pass Best Quality directly in Compressor from the HDV QT made from the timeline. I was wondering if any of you have dealt with rendering out an HDV FCP timeline to Prores, DVCPROHD, or uncompressed HD/SD with any success for use in making a “menued” DVD in DVD Studio Pro that has decent looking compression, without all the HDV compression artifacts. I can experiment for days and ultimately find out, but have any of you actually run into this problem and have a preferred, workable solution?
