HDV to DVD via FCP article in Video Systems
FCP stands out as one of the stumbling blocks in getting a series of 16×9, 1080 HDV CineFrame24 shows to DVD. Shot with 3 Sony HVRZ1Us, the workflow halted when FCP could not detect the CineFrame24 properly for recapture. Compressor’s output failed the team’s quality control. They regrouped and decided to print to HDV tape and take the tape to a post house for encoding through a Minerva system. The team did make use of QMaster at night to handle rendering the uncompressed files. Oddly, that obscure application seems to have worked.
Lots of other interesting information on getting the 3-camera HD shoot to 480p DVD including this item that I hadn’t ever thought about but that seems obvious now: Encoding to 24fps not only maintains the original look-n-feel concept but it dramatically reduces the file size while allowing the bit rate to go as high as possible.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
