I have some timelines that are all HDV 60i Sony clips.

After reading and searching and reading etc I finally decided to re-render my sequences using the ProRes codec in the timeline then export a self contained ProRes file. I had originally “export using quicktime conversion” based on a internet manual I read. Now it appears as if ProRes self contained is the way to go and then on to Compressor. 2 questions.

    1. When I apply “DVD Best Quality” to the clip in Compressor. It sets the encoder tab field dominance to “top first”. Then the frame controls it sets to resize filter>better (not best) and output fields> same as source and deinterlace> fast.

I am assuming I want the resize filter to “Best” and field dominance to “bottom field first” but am confused because it defaulted to that for a reason right?

    2. What does the interlaced checkbox do? It appears to do nothing.

    Hi Elihaj,
Many people in NTSC-land think that MPG-2 must always be Lower-first. NO.
From your HD Upper-first you can perfectly make a NTSC MPG-2 Upper-first that will play without any problem.
Just let field-order: “Same as source” and FAST. There is no field-order managing needed.
    Set the Resize to BEST.
What I don’t like is QT Conversion. To render in 32b Floating Point, in FC and Compressor you have to force the application to do it.
How you get it with QT Conversion? You have no control of nothing with QT Conversion.

    Hey Rafael,

Thanks for the reply. I have contacted David Weiss for further consulting with my project. It is time for some one on one realtime human talk.
