HDV Rendering Solutions
I am getting ready to edit my first long format work in HDV and I was wondering if there was any miracle worker out there that would cut down on render time.
The system did not come with a Blackmagic Card, but we are in the process of purchasing one. Will that have any effect in terms of render time?
I know that you can capture your footage in SD and then convert only what you need to HD and that is probably what I will end up doing, but I was wondering if anyoen knew of any other solutions.

I’m running a Quad G5 system with 4gb ram and it plays,edits,scrubs HDV just like it were DV.
I have a black magic multibridge but all that really does for HDV is allow simultaneous monitoring of the timeline on my pro crt and plasma.
We just shot a days worth of HDV footage for a local museum, that will be entirely captured & edited with the HDV codec.

Why would you want to do that? HDV files sizes are essentially equal in size to plain vanilla DV files. There is no benefit at all.
As far as the rendering goes, sure, you could capture to DVCProHD and avoid a few of the extra renders that HDV sometimes brings into play, but, your Blackmagic card will not speed up DVCProHD rendering. On the other hand, the Kona cards actually speed up both rendering of HDV and DVCProHD because scaling is accomplished onboard the card via hardware.
