I know that the HDV Pro Rez has been discussed many times. But I have one more slant on the question and would humbly appreciate your collective wisdom.

I have 4 hrs of HDV (digitized) I will need to do some serious color/level correction, and was thinking that ProRez might really be my best choice. When I look in compressor for the ProRez Codec it gives me a choice of ProRez (1440) and ProRez (HQ) 1900.

So…If I want to transcode to ProRez… 8 bit HD(1440) or 10 bit HQ(1900)? Also, would I be best off using compressor, MM or perhaps Episode (or other)?

In addition, I have noticed that when I go to the color correction window, on a still frame, my levels appear to be clamped at 100% (Kona 3, FCS2 6.0.4, QT 7.5, PowerMac Quad), but when I hit play I see my histogram & WF shoot up into the red + 100 range (I’ve only seen this happen with HDV).

Any insights would be greatly appreciated?

    Cheers,

    Hey jim

stick to the standard version, less hassles on playback-DO NOT use MM if you have or need content going into AE or Shake, as MM will not process the footage @ full raster.

I like and use Episode with great results.
