Trying to capture HDV from Sony HVR-V1U. All tapes have timecode breaks. Capture is aborted due to this or it creates new clips – up to two dozen.
Does anyone know what I can do to capture one clip from one tape? Tried capture now but it either aborts due to timecode break or it creates dozens of clips. BTW: Create new clip on start/stop is NOT checked.
My only other idea is to send all of the masters to a dub house to have them dubbed with new timecode thus creating a new master. Obviously trying to avoid this one.

To add to the story, 75% of the footage was shoot in DVCPRO HD which has been a dream thus far. If I could, what would be the best way to get both of these formats on one timeline – convert the HDV to DVCPRO HD?
Final Cut Studio 2 is in the mail and that might be the answer.
Thanks for reading and a million more if you have ideas or anything to share.

if you have timecode-breaks FCP will alwasy generate new clips after each break.
you can only avoid that by dubbing the tapes with continuous timecode.
why not dub them to DVCproHD and then ingest the whole thing as DVCproHD. you will have a better editing codec and no renders like when you mix hdv with DVCProHD.
    FCS 2 is another story….

User Prefs > Timecode break. You can tell FCP to “Warn After Capture” on TC breaks. BUT your resulting clips will not match the original timecode. Once FCP hits a TC break, it will continue generating its own timecode from the point of the break. So you will not be able to recapture footage later with accurate TC.

This is what we do for HDV projects, convert them to DVCPro HD during ingest through the Kona 3. Any AJA Kona board can convert HDV to DVCPro HD during ingest. With FCS 2 you’ll also have the option to convert to the new Apple ProRes 422 codec via a Kona board.
