    Ok this is a folowup to the post I made in the HDV forum a few days ago. I’m having trouble getting FCP to recognize a Sony HVR-M10U deck for HDV input. I can get FCP to input via firewire from the deck using the ilink downconvert so it is not the deck’s firewire cards. I’ve checked and double checked all the decks settings(turning Ilink off to output HDV only) but still no luck. The OS sees the deck hooked up to the firewire port but FCP refuses to see it.

    After much troubleshooting on two systems I’ve come to the conclusion this issue has arisen after a recent set up updates. I updated FCP to 5.14 and OSX to 10.4.9. It seems like the timeline points to one of these two updates as athe root of this problem. I’ve trashes prefs and checked all the basics. I’ve tried every firewire HDV device control preset.

    I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with HDV with these versions of software running. My next step may have to be a downgrade o OS or FCP but I wanted to check first.

    Peterd- You may have already been here but make sure your iLink convert is turned OFF on your M10U deck (I/O menu).

    [Peterd] “please folks I’m getting desperate here. any further ideas?”

    nothing that hasn’t been covered here or in the previous thread. HDV is just a pain to work with, that’s why we convert to DVCPro HD on the way in. Sorry.

    Peterd- Sorry nothing works so far. Here is what I would do in sequence to try and resolve the issue;
    -Set deck I/O menu to>HDV>iLink OFF>AV/DV Out to OFF
    – Plug the HVR-M10U component out directly to an HD TV and verify the deck is putting out true HD>if yes proceed.
    – Quit FCP and power down deck and plug in firewire… then power up deck and go to apple icon> about this Mac>more info>click on firewire and see if the computer is seeing the deck>if yes proceed.
    -Launch FCP>Easy Setup>HDV>Log and Capture>You should have VTR OK for deck control>roll tape from capture window and you should have picture and audio (delayed) but there.
    Hope this helps.

    Wanted to thank everyone for thier suggestions. I ended up downgrading my FCP to 5.1. Of course the HDV came in with zero trouble making me feel foolish for taking so much time troubleshooting.

    Just a friendly warning to anyone who uses HDV regularly about being careful with updating to 5.14.
