I’ve been reading the posts on CreativeCOW for quite some time. I figured it’s finally time to get an account…

What is the best video card on the market for HDV acceleration?

I will soon be exclusively editing HDV 1080i. Render times can be very lengthy, is there a product out there that will help speed things up?
I’m looking to use the card with one of the new 8-core MacPros (8GB Ram), plus with an 8-core 2.8 GHz MacPro with Final Cut Studio 2.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is no real “acceleration” on any of the cards.

What the AJA Kona boards offer is realtime scaling of the HDV and DVCPro HD formats so that the processors are available to do more realtime features for you.

As for editing exclusively in HDV, I would never recommend that. We convert all our footage to DVCPro HD or ProRes during ingest through the Kona boards. Much cleaner and easier workflow for Post. HDV is good to shoot with, but a lousy codec for editing.
