  • HDV footage in DV sequence – change back to hdv 60i?

Posted by Elijah Lynn on January 7, 2009 at 7:37 pm

    Hi,

I was handed off a project. The source footage is all HDV, the sequence settings are DV NTSC Widescreen, when I change back to HDV 60i it leaves the old size in the canvas and does not fill it completely.

I need to export this sequence to Apple prores then on to Mpeg2 for the DVD.

All the other sequences are in HDV still, it is just that the editor put this one in DV and it looks horrible.

    Here is the sample image

    Thanks

Copy and paste the clips into an HDV sequence. Then highlight everything and right click on a clip (this will affect everything) and choose REMOVE ATTRIBUTES. Select the DISTORT option.

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the quick reply. This worked for a few of the clips in the timeline but not everything. Especially the slides that were used.

    Any other thoughts?

[Elijah Lynn] “This worked for a few of the clips in the timeline but not everything. Especially the slides that were used. “

Of course that wouldn’t work for stills, slides, etc.Elijah — if you think about it, the slides weren’t imported at 1920×1080 and then resized to SD, as was the HDV — they were brought in at some other size and then resized by eye.

Shane’s tip for “global resizing” will only work with elements that conform to a standard — any other custom-sized elements have to resized manually. It’s the way of the world when up or down-scaling projects.

    Hi David,

Thanks so much for the reply. I would have replied back yesterday but I had a stomach illness.

I don’t know what happened but after further investigation and a few attempts at outputting some segments in the newly created HDV timeline the Pro res export looked horrible and I found that somehow the people who originally shot the video all had HD cameras but shot some in DV (very few) and most in HDV.

So that is why the editor had that one sequence as DV and all the others as HDV. Now I would like to ask for some advice as to how to output that mixed HDV/DV sequence before I bring it into compressor for the Mpeg/AC3 conversion. Should I use HDV export, AIC, ProRes or DV and then go to Mpeg? I would think that if take the sequence straight to HDV then the HDV segments will look horrible.

I also saw that you offer consulting services. I may be calling you soon as I am looking for a few experts I can call on occasion when I get in a bind.

I just read your bio , then followed to your website and watched your Ron Paul interview on Gold and Silver.
