HDV export issue
Hi guys
I would really appreciate any help with this.
I have just finished editing a series of four, one hour long presentations. All the footage used is HDV 1080p25.
I have been exporting them (to 1080p25 .mov’s) every couple of days, no problem.
Now, for some reason, one of them will not export correctly. Instead of generating the usual 14 GB (.mov) file, it generates a 1.5Gb file, and looks awful, like a really low quiality .avi or something (totally pixelated, etc).
The export process takes just as long as when exporting correctly.
Export settings are identical to working copies.
Am baffled and dont know where to go from here.I am using Final Cut Studio 2, on a dual G5, with OSx 10.4.11.
Has it become corrupted? Can anyone help?

I’d be willing to bet you’ve been using Quicktime Conversion to export, right?
If so, then you undoubtedly did a pilot error, but there’s also a lesson to be learned from that pilot error, which is that, so long as you’re not changing codecs during export, you should be exporting a self contained QT using Export >> Quicktime Movie >> Curent Settings.

Hi, thanks for the speedy response.
I have been using: Export > QuickTime Movie > 1080p25 setting + self contained.
This has worked fine in the past.
I have checked ‘sequence settings’, for if anything had changed there, but can see no difference between sequence that exports well and sequence that doesnt.
Going to run some more test, any ideas more than welcome.

Instead use: Export > QuickTime Movie > Current settings + self contained and see what happens…
There’s no reason in the world you need to use anything other than current settings unless you wish to introduce a problem.

Hello again.
Just to let you know I got the file working. I tried exporting with ‘Current Settings’ but no joy. In the end, after a couple of tests, I cut and pasted the entire timeline into a new sequence. Then exported it and it worked first time.
