  • HDV Export in native format?

The footage I imported from my sony hdr-hc1 looks good.
    (1440×1080)

After making edits and putting it into a timeline, I exported it
using the Adobe Media Encoder. And even did a File Export Movie.

The output is not as clear (sharp) as the original. This viewed on my computer monitor.

So, is there a way to export to the original format?

Or are there suggested encoder options to try? There are quite an assortment
    to choose from. Rather overwhelming.

Also, I don’t need to author to a DVD.

    Thanks.

I usually skip the step of putting it back to tape or exporting as HDV. For my purposes, exporting to a WMV-HD file using WM9 serves the purpose. I keep it down to about 8Mbps so I can play it on my WMV-HD capable DVD player. But, if you are just playing it from a hard drive, feel free to bump it up to 15Mbps.

Also, depending on the resolution of your PC screen, you might be happier reducing it to 1280X720 just to save bandwidth and use the data rate to improve quality instead.

By the way, you may be losing some sharpness if you are deinterlacing. This is common. You might want to sharpen your edges a bit before encoding to WMV to make up some of the difference.

That is kinda a law of nature…stuff rolls down hill.

For local playback, Windows Media Video 9 is probably as good as things get (File size:quality). Try a couple of the HD presets.

For interlacing, I saw that as a selectable option during one export session.
Not sure which encoder option, since I experimented with a few.

    Advisable to have interlaced enabled?

    I use 1600×1200 on my CRT. Though it’s designed to reach 2048 x 1536. 🙂

The end systems that will show the video(s) are Windows Media Player based (ie, MCE 2005).
So, WMV is a good output target.

Now to export raw (same format as my HDR-HC1), I’m assuming that should be output to the camera.
Unless there is a M2T output.

    Thanks for you help/advice.

I know what I want to do, but it’s clear Premiere Pro has a learning curve. 🙂

You could also try this trick

This gets you the HDV file that goes to your camera.
