I am about to begin my first HDV based project (have always worked with HD SDI) and am running into an issue with the initial captures. Whenever I attempt to capture using native HDV the audio is only captured in mono. If I switch to Apple Intermediate, then the audio can be captured in stereo. Also, for HDV captures, the log and capture window remains black. I can read the “timecode” but there is no video preview available. Is this normal for HDV and FCP 5.1? This is getting so annoying that I’m thinking of just using a Miranda to capture from SDI, but I really don’t want to go to the trouble of setting aside disk space and having to recompress for tape (client wants an HDV tape of final piece).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Looks like it was an issue with my user account. I set up a new user account and FCP captures fine with the HDV material from there.

User accouts can be strange some times. I knew some one who’s “f” key stoped working on there iBook, they had the keybord replaced and it still would not work, after noticing that it worked fine at the log in promt they tried a different account and it was fine.
