  • HDV audio capturing problems.

Being trying to capture some HDV footage shot on the XL-H1 playing back with the Sony HVR-15. Everything seems to be working fine but when viewing the clip it’s only captured the left channel. Audio was recorded on the right! I’ve checked clip settings in Log and Capture and tried both Stereo and Mono. Funny thing is when I capture stereo it works but the clip doesn’t end up in FCP. I can find it at finder level, play it, but can not import it. I get an “unknown file” error message. Has anyone ever had this problem before with HDV?

    This is driving me crazy.

Was the Canon set up for 2 tk 48khz or 4 track 32 khz?

Also on the Sony Deck what tracks can you see/ hear before you try to capture. The sample rate thing is one possibility but also the playback deck may be causing issues. I do the opposite – capture Sony Z1 material on the XL H1 without a problem so I am confident that the two cameras are playback compatible.

Canon was definitely set to 48k. I have had this issue before with footage shot on the Sony V1 as well.

I think I have found out how to fix it. What I did was I switched to Easy Setup DV48 then loaded a DV tape thus kicking the machine back into DV mode. When I looked at the clip settings in the capture window low and behold channel 2 is turned off!! I switched it back on. Ejected the DV tape and loaded an HDV one. I then had to restart FCP to get it to notice the change. Opened log and capture and it’s now working. There must be some kind of bug here.
One to be aware of. I have seen quite a few posts on the Apple forums complaining of the same problems.
