I just got a XH-A1(HDV) and trying to decide between an HV40 (HDV) or a Panasonic TM700 (H.264).
I really like the tapeless TM700 and it has gotten great reviews but wondering if I would regret it later.
I’m getting whichever of the smaller cams at B&H so I have 15 days to return it but thought you guys may have some experience with mixing the 2 formats (in Vegas 8) .
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

One downfall on the tapeless camcorders is if you capture one long video without stopping, and you only want a small piece from it, you still have to copy the whole file to your computer to get that small piece. Not so with tape.

I have two HDV cameras and and AVCHD camera and while you can have both on the timeline at the same time, the AVCHD does slow things down considerably. HDV is a dream to edit. I have a Sony Hard Disc Recorder for my HDV cameras so I am totally tapeless.

My next camera purchase will definitely be another HDV camera. I would avoid AVCHD but that’s just me. I hate working with it. Your mileage may vary. 😉
