    OK – 720 x 540 Square is squeezed to 720 x 486 for D1

What pixel ratio do I need to work with in Photoshop (Square) so that it comes into Final Cut Pro properly? My HDV footage is 1440 x 1080.

I have calculated 1600 x 1080 and then squeezed it down but it still doesn’t look quite right.

    Thanks in advance

1920×1080. Why? Because that works out to 16×9, where 120 is the common factor.

    720×540 works out to 4×3. Like 640×480.

I actually figured that out after posting the question.

The thing that was confusing me is that with 4:3 you are squeezing the vertical number but with 16:9 you are squeezing the Horizontal.

I’m sure as soon as I hit the post button I’ll figure out why but I would still appreciate your insight.

    Thanks for the quick response.

They’re two different specs — there’s no need for them to match. 🙂

By the way, PAL is squeezed differently too. Off we go, merrily into the land of confusing video specs…
